Paula Wachsstock
July 26 — October 18, 2010
Combining printing with painting I find the perfect fit. Working with two processes
that define who I am as an artist. The excitement of this discovery has never worn off.
I take something that is true in life and recreate that truth through color,
the layering of images and mark making. What becomes important to me is the process
and ultimately for the viewer to experience the end result of that process.
In telling my story I want the viewer to recognize something familiar and experience
something new.
With screen-printing I find my image under layers of color. Excavating with an electric
sander, razor blade or solvent, I scrape through and discover what was once underneath,
finding a treasure that needs to be found and comes to life. This process I call
"paint to print." Painting into the print and screen printing on the painting.
They are Monotypes, no two are alike.
