June 25 — August 14, 2010 Application Deadline: March 31, 2010 LOCATION: ABOUT THE EXHIBITION gaps is a juried exhibition open to all artists eighteen years of age and older. Described by the juror, Vesela Sretenovic, gaps are "...in-between states, stops or pauses that pertain to the working of the brain; our personal and social life; political and economic situation, technological innovation and communication; the gaps between actual and virtual experience; modern and alter-modern; human and post-human condition." The exhibition will be open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11am to 5pm. All selected artists will be featured
in an exhibition catalog. ABOUT THE VENUE gaps will be installed in and around Greater Reston
Arts Center located in Reston Town Center, a busy commercial and residential
district in Northern Virginia. The arts center has an open contemporary
space, concrete floors, moveable walls, and large store-front windows
offering twenty-four hour views from the street. Additionally, a small
selection of works will be placed outdoors, adjacent to the arts center
building. Greater Reston Arts Center is one of the premier
non-profit gallery spaces in Northern Virginia. ABOUT THE JUROR Vesela Sretenovic, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art
Dr. Sretenovic has recently been appointed
a curator of modern and contemporary art at The Phillips Collection.
Prior to that, she was a curator at the David Winton Bell Gallery, Brown
University, where she organized numerous exhibitions of contemporary
art, including solo shows of the work of Charles Long, Joseph Beuys,
and Sean Scully. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. from Syracuse
University, an M.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago,
and a B.A. from the University of Belgrade, former Yugoslavia.
ELIGIBILITY All artists, 18 years and older are
eligible. ACCEPTABLE WORKS All three-dimensional freestanding, wall hung, and ceiling suspended sculpture, installations, and new media are eligible. Work installed in the gallery must fit through standard double doors, 8'H x 6'W. All work must be ready for installation with proper hanging devices if needed and instructions where necessary. GRACE has a limited number of pedestals and wall wedges.Outdoor works must be constructed for a public setting. TO ENTER Each application requires an on-line application through Juried Art Services and must include the following:
IMAGES Artists must submit 4 images (2 views of 2 works) of three-dimensional work in any media and not previously exhibited at GRACE. The juror will consider all images for exhibition therefore all works must be available. Label each image with the following:
VIDEO and NEW MEDIA INSTALLATION SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Note: Video/film artists must also complete an on-line application and include 4 still images. In addition, artists must send DVDs, 1 DVD per artwork (maximum of 2 DVDs,) with maximum of 10 minutes duration per project to the address below. DVD's must be formatted to open and run on Macintosh computer systems. Artists are solely responsible for testing the functionality of their DVD entries. Please send all video/films to:

EXHIBITION CATALOG The three sponsoring organizations
will produce an exhibition catalog, available at the reception, featuring
all exhibiting artists. SALES A 33.3% sales commission will be retained by GRACE on all sales. Work can be Not for Sale. LIABILITY Works will be insured by GRACE from
receipt of artwork at the gallery through pick-up date and time. INSTALLATION Artists are solely responsible for
delivery and installation of their accepted work on the installation
date, and de-installation of their work on the pick-up date. The curatorial
staff will design the exhibition layout and assist artists with installations. AGREEMENT All accepted works must remain for
the duration of gaps. GRACE reserves the right to photograph accepted
works for publicity and educational purposes. GRACE reserves the right
to reject works that differ from the submitted images. GRACE is not
responsible for works left after the pick-up dates following the close
of the exhibition. Submission of an entry constitutes understanding
and agreement with all the conditions set forth.
